With his armour on, on a night so still

Walked a chivalrous youth of valour and will.

Braved he, unflinching, to the underworld,

On a quest of hope, to bring back his girl.

The peace of her life, marred by death's loud,

Her laughter ceased and her beauty bowed.

The young lad, on his way to the bargain

With hades and Persephone on the reign.

"Let my beloved go as I sing to you the song of Apollo.

Drenched with muses' magic, my music will flow.

I'll sing to you, of Demeter's harvest and of Lethe's forgotten lores,

In exchange for you letting my lady love go".

Nodded Hades, his wife followed suit

Surprised and taken aback by the grit of the youth.

As his fingers kissed the strings and the lad began to sing

The underworld awed, as his voice began to ring.

The boats on Styx for a moment halted

Sisyphus stopped to hear the music exalted.

Hades gestured; the lady walked out.

She followed the youth, as he walked her out, proud.

On the climb to the light, a cry of stumble in his ears

About to turn but gripped by the old tale's fear.

'The pain of Euridice falling into doom

The dejection of Orpheus walking, alone, back home.'

He walked straight with his gaze fixed ahead

Little did he know, his lady just slipped into the dead.

She tripped on a rock and reached for his hand

But he was just another fear gripped, bold man.

He walked straight not turning a glance

Leading to the futility of the grand errand.

As he turned at last hearing a loud cry,

There she was, falling, to one last time, die.

Devastated, he shrieked a cry,

Calling on Gods to help this time.

"O heaven's rulers that keep the law,

Is this justice, that i saw?

Free her from death and its claws

For I'm not a man of might, just another so flawed."

Silence filled the air, no word uttered.

The only sound to be heard, was young man's shatter.
